New Chairman and Member of Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for Manipur and Mizoram

Sh. A. Chhawnmawia, IDES (Retd.) appointed as chairman & member of Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for Manipur & Mizoram. 

Sh. A. Chhawnmawia has been appointed as chairman & member, Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for Manipur & Mizoram. Union Minister of Power, Sh. Jyotiraditya M. Scindia administered the oath to Sh. A. Chhawnmawia. He will remain chairman for one year till 23.01.2014 and continue as member for five years or till the age of 65. 

Earlier Sh. A. Chhawnmawia served as Director, Defence Estates, southern command & prior to this, he was secretary, JERC since 07.02.2011. 

The major functions of the Commission under the Act, inter-alia, are to regulate the tariff for generation, supply, transmission and wheeling of electricity, whole sale, bulk or retail as the case may be within the State; to regulate the electricity purchase of distribution licensees, facilitate intra-state transmission and wheeling of electricity; issue licenses to transmission licensees, distribution licensees and electricity traders; promote cogeneration and generation of electricity from renewable sources of energy and adjusicate upon the disputes between the licensees and generation companies, etc.
